LCM's very own Marketing and PR Trainee Debbie Osborne, will be putting her best foot forward for Cancer Research at the forthcoming Great South Run.

Debbie, who works for the Fareham-based marketing and PR agency, will run the 10 mile race in memory of her Nan, as well as other friends and relatives who have battled with the disease.

The Trainee Account Manager, who also works as a freelance sports writer, has never completed the run before and this will be her first competitive race.

Debbie said: “I wanted to do something challenging for a cancer-based charity and decided quite early on this year, when a family friend died of cancer, that I would complete the run.

I decided to take the ‘run for fun’ approach – but I’m not quite sure now what is fun about running for ten miles!”

Debbie fully admits that training has not come naturally to her, despite regularly playing team sports such as netball. “Running – or slow jogging as I will be doing – over a distance has been difficult and I’ve had a few injuries and niggles that have affected my training” she said.  “However that is nothing compared to what family and friends who have been cancer patients have had to go through to battle against this disease. I will take part in the run as a tribute to all those who have survived, as well to those who sadly didn’t make it.”

Debbie is hoping to raise £1000 for Cancer research and still needs sponsors to reach her target. Log on to www.justgiving.com/debshatesrunning to donate.
