Create magnetic content
In our experience, around 85% of executives have not given much thought to how the content is going to be put together, or what it needs to contain. We’ve seen people go through serious frustration and delay as a result.
This is because putting content together is time consuming and takes specific skill.
It needs the right people spending the right time on the right content. Who has the knowledge in your business? Who has the writing skill? Who has the time?
LCM has a team of copywriters and one of them will willingly do the job, and all they need is concentrated time to get input from you and your people.
If you want to have a go at writing your Web content yourself, here are a few tips:
- People don’t read Websites word-for-word, instead they scan the pages, so the copy needs to be written with this in mind
- Less is more. Use short sentences and when you’ve written the copy, take as much back out as you can
- Include regular calls to action to make it easy for your user to get a result from visiting your site
- Create hyperlinks to Web downloads or pages with further information, so your user can choose to go or stay
- Break up the copy with bullet points, short paragraphs, illustrations, subheadings
- Make it sing – give it personality, avoid marketing speak
- Get it proof-read on print-outs rather than on screen. It’s easier to see the mistakes
- Allocate sensible amounts of time for updating your content
- Retain consistency for example, of tone and of grammar use
- Get an interested team member to read it for style and tone and sense, not just grammatical errors etc
